Welcome to The Vine, our way of keeping you, our clients and partners, connected to what's happening across the Health Gorilla ecosystem.
Just as vines weave through the jungle, connecting trees and helping ecosystems thrive, this newsletter is designed to strengthen the connections we share with you. Our goal is simple: to ensure that ideas, updates, and opportunities flow freely between us.
Here's what's growing this month.
A Message from Bob Watson,
Executive Chairperson & CEO
Dear Clients & Partners,
This month, much of the industry's conversation has focused on what's next for interoperability, particularly for rural health. As healthcare continues to embrace nationwide exchange, the priorities are becoming clearer: strengthening trust in TEFCA, protecting patient privacy while expanding equitable access to information, and ensuring connected data translates into better clinical decisions.
At Health Gorilla, we're committed to building secure infrastructure, supporting responsible governance, and delivering actionable information remain central to everything we do. As technology continues to evolve, our focus remains unchanged: helping healthcare organizations deliver more coordinated, informed, and effective care.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for joining us as we shape the future of connected healthcare.
– Bob Watson
Compliance Corner
TEFCA crosses one billion records
TEFCA has topped one billion records exchanged, and the Social Security Administration just connected to help speed up disability claims. As a QHIN, Health Gorilla is part of that network.
Patients' right to their own records
Under HIPAA, patients can get their own records within about 30 days — and this remains a top HHS enforcement focus. Health Gorilla's Individual Access Services offers an identity-verified path to retrieve them.
Give your BAA a once-over
Review your Business Associate Agreement for permitted uses, subcontractor terms, breach-notification timing, safeguards, and how data is handled at termination.
Reg watch
Prior-authorization FHIR APIs (CMS-0057-F) go live January 1, 2027. The HIPAA Security Rule rewrite is still just proposed.

Product Updates: Cross-code mapping for a cleaner record
Often, clinical data arrives incomplete, miscoded, and inconsistent. Health Gorilla validates, enriches, and classifies medical codes across standard code systems such as LOINC, SNOMED CT, CPT, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS, RxNorm, and NDC. Our terminology services complete partial codes, flag inactive ones, and categorize medical history records and diagnostic results, enabling more complete records, cleaner deduplication, and a consistent longitudinal patient view your clinicians and analysts can trust.
Spotlighting the Team Members Who Help Us Swing Higher
Debrine Rosier, our Director of Solutions Implementation, is a special Gorilla in our jungle. She’s a no-nonsense “we can do this, team” kind of leader who displays her curation of Disney Princesses alongside a heavy-hitting collection of baseball memorabilia. She’s not so much complicated as complex.
As a proud Hilton Head resident, Debrine spends weekends fishing with her grandchildren, and sometimes, just for the thrill of it, she’ll jump out of an airplane.
Perhaps it's that adventurous spirit that makes her so successful inside the jungle. Debrine takes on the implementations nobody else wants, the ones with tangled requirements and immovable deadlines, and gets them live. She keeps clients calm (her Southern accent may play a role here) through go-live, keeps her team steady when scope shifts, and pulls people and priorities into one working whole.
If you haven’t met her yet, wander into her part of the jungle and say hello. You’ll be happy you did.
